I started photography on a trip to Romania in 2006. That was the first time I visited the little village of Rosia to which I would return from this time on almost every year.
These journeys and this place have influenced my photography in a very profound way. In my opinion photography has the gift not only to show what is there and what is happening, but what lies in between. This in between is what we are seeking to meet and what takes time to find. To take time is indispensable for me and my work. Especially these days which tell us that time is not available it is important to take it. For me this is the way to truly develop photography.
In Between
Roșia is a small village close to Sibiu in Romania, one of many of its kind. The life of the local roma population is caught between their ancient culture and the modern Europe of the 21st Century.
The balance between the two cultures is difficult and the sheer indissolubility not only segregates the village.
