My main interest are – very simply – people. I want to understand how and why we perform like we do. A central part of my work are personal portraits. Coming from a background of acting and film-making, I am also interested in the mechanics of cultural work, how culture evolves around us and forms us as human beings. These concerns are reflected in my photography and in my writing.
Recent projects include The Doctor and the TARDIS, a portrait of two young fans of the British TV series Doctor Who, and In The Spot, in which I look at the community programme of a Welsh circus. To me, these projects both express the joy that you can find when you closely relate to something cultural – may it be as tiny or seemingly unimportant – and start to find a new identity through it.
I am a writer, photographer, film-maker and actor based in Germany. I studied English literature and linguistics for a while but gave it up when I found it dull and uninspiring. Then I moved to Wales to study Documentary Photography in Newport. Since I find myself at really early stages of my career, the course helps me to focus more on my photography and develop the documentary aspect of it much more than I could have imagined. I know that I will always be curious about the people around me, about what they do and what inspires them. With the camera in one hand and a pen in the other, I will continue to explore them, their environment, the world.
