ARTIST STATEMENT
“Life is great” , part of the portfolio online for this festival, is a self published book released in 2014. Here I am presenting some of the photographs included in the book. This is an exploration of the area of South Wales, the most populated region in the South West of the United Kingdom. Once one of the most flourishing minig regions in Europe, nowadays faces similar circumstances than other Western developed and post industrial countries. Western post industrial societies are described by the sociologist Herbert Marcuse as “societies that intensify the fight for existence precisely when it would be possible to be suppressed”. This work is an attempt to explore the area and the people. For the first approach I chose to explore the area and its public space, where the social life takes place and power relations, values, history and collective culture manifest. The public as a whole from where to extract the exceptions to the rule as well, the magic in the mundane. This is a work in progress.
